Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. CUTE. FUNNY. British, so you have to listen close, or you can't understand what they are saying....which is WHY you watch it when no children are around. Not to mention, there is ONE, tiny naked behind shot in the very beginning(!). OOPS. Anyhoo, good movie and sweet. I liked it! It tells the story of a plain Miss Pettigrew, who can't seem to cut it in the nanny business and gets fired from the placement agency, only to slyly sneak in to a "social secretary" job that she hears about on her way out the door. She meets a woman who is entertaining four different men at once, but is in love with only one. It ends perfect, but I won't spoil that!
This last weekend, we watched this:
Anybody seen this? It was a great movie, and alas (surprise), I cried. I love Queen Latifah...much better actor than rapper. Jennifer Hudson was great, and so was Dakota Fanning. And, could Alicia Keys get any MORE beautiful? Even with a 60's afro, she is still so pretty. It takes place in 1964 in the deep south, where of course, racism was at its worst. The Civil Rights Act had just been passed, but it seems it took awhile for that to catch on. The movie tells the story of a little girl who is looking for love from a motherly figure. The story line was good, a little intense at times, but really good. I kept thinking about this for days. The discrimination these people went through was ridiculous! And the people who put them through it were just plain EVIL I think. I just can't wrap my mind around how you could be so MEAN to someone just because of the color of their skin. Blows my mind. I hope they did some serious repenting or we all know where they are.
Anyway, before I get to far up on my soapbox, I will quit, and say that if you are looking for something good to watch, check these out. The men in your life will not be to interested, but hey, everyone needs a chick flick now and then. Enjoy.
